I rip, cut, shred, sew, pleat then sew again to create each of my canvases bit by bit.

By sewing each canvas from scratch, I create an authentic piece of artwork before my painting even begins. I want the canvas itself to be a work of art! Once the canvas is ready, I stretch it over a custom frame. And then I go in and sew some more by hand. I use thick embroidery floss to add more stitches and often hand-made buttons too. I love to add details that you can’t get from painting alone. The canvases are often pulled apart and put back together again. There are areas on each painting that are frayed, pretty, gritty, ornate, and some that seem like open or sealed-off scars.

I have been painting my canvases in simple, often bold monochromatic colors that are accompanied by minimal accents. This allows the sewn canvas to be the center of attention. each painting is a way of putting our lives on display!
